Keyboard shortcut to move windows between outputs with Compiz

2010/06/23

This is another one of those seemingly trivial things that become very apparent when they no longer work (e.g. on a fresh install.) For moving windows between displays on a multiple head setup, it’s easy enough to configure a single keyboard shortcut with the Put plugin. Simply launch the CompizConfig settings manager, enable Put, and assign a keybinding for “Put To Next Output.”

However, there is no “Put To Previous Output” option. This is irksome, for whatever reason. Imagine you have three or four displays and you want to move a window to the output on the left. It takes more keypresses than it should. Awesome is one WM that makes this easy enough to set a keybinding for. Why doesn’t Compiz?
