It’s not often that the consumer gets a win these days. ¬†However, yesterday (which means that as you’re reading this, it’s already old news) the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (or DCMA for the acronym-lovers) was revised to allow the following:

  1. Jailbreaking/Rooting your iPhone/Android/Other proprietary device.
  2. Use of short excerpts from copyrighted movies to create new noncommercial works.
  3. A renewal of the rule which allows for the unlocking of used mobile phones.

So, unlock your old phone, jailbreak your new one, post some video remixes on YouTube, and thank the Electronic Frontier Foundation for sticking up for your right to geek out!
