Alternatives Rock.

2011/01/26

No, not the pasé trend that ruined so much music of the 90’s. I’m talking about FREEDOM, CHOICES, OPTIONS (and not giving all of your money to greedy corporations, blah blah blah…)

Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator (I’m really not trying to pick on Adobe here…) are some of the most commonly used software applications available, but they are pricey and proprietary–two factors which sour my appetite against them.

Lucky us, there are free (as in free speech, not just in terms of cost) alternatives to those three, and so many more! Here’s a brief list of commercial applications and their open source counterparts. These programs should all be available for Linux, Mac, and Windows…

Definitely feel free to add your favorites in the comments section; when we share, everyone wins!

Adobe Photoshop – The GIMP

Adobe Illustrator – Inkscape

Microsoft Office – Open Office
